While writers like Colin Bennett in his article about MUFON in UFO Magazine derided MUFON investigators as “Locust clouds of lower class - middle class professionals” a man had been going about for four decades, without much fanfare, proving UFOs had mass and weight. While western superficial spiritual pundits were preaching the “Secret” as a way to create your world, that same man after years of field work of collecting soil samples proved that when certain UFOs touched down they could change that soil forever. As others preached the UFO sermon, one man lived the sermon by searching for the truth. He never had a UFO best seller but I think no one has come closer to proving UFOs are intelligently controlled craft than Ted Phillips.

Ted Philips connects with other human beings. It may be his unassuming humble demeanor. But don’t let that fool you. When it comes to researching UFO trace cases he treats each landing site as if it were a crime scene. This man, Ted Phillips, stands at the very front of the class as far as character and devotion to pure science. In a society where talk is cheap and the spiritual is doled out while millions die, Ted found his faith in the work he accomplished; yes, the old fashion way, showing up each day, putting small pieces of the puzzle together until the evidence became awe-inspiring.

Some “spiritual” groups inside the UFO community preach what was so aptly labeled “Optimism Gestapo” in the “Mysteries” issue #18 fall 2007 magazine article, “New Age Cointelpro and the Optimism Gestapo” by Jaye Beldo. In the article, he states, “A belief among new-agers that anything negative that one expresses will only further magnetize negativity.” This type of spiritual isolation lacks humility and is selfish to the extreme. Hey, all you people dying in Africa, all you need is positive thinking and the “Secret” and you will be all right. I met some folks like these at UFO conferences. They are a great danger to good research when the research conclusions differ with their world reality. At times, they behave like religious fundamentalists, intolerant to questions which challenge their disbeliefs and dismissing, as one of the lost, anyone who holds a more realistic outlook. I know I am going to get arguments on this but trying to prove the metaphysical as the whole picture is just impossible. Many scientists tried to center us in the Universe a while back with “Are we the only life in the Universe?” question they kept throwing around. With the discovery of some 250 planets later the question is moot.

I have noticed most of the new crop of UFO researchers have not lived up to the character of Ted Phillips. They spend most of their time with government connections, old UFO cases, and documents with continuing dead-ends. Most of us who have had UFO experiences know that this problem is not going to be solved with scientists or government agents leaking the smoking gun. It will be solved from the bottom up, by the people, for the people.

Until now, Ted Phillips was hardly known outside the UFO field. The recent “History Channel” airings treating this subject seriously have brought acknowledgment to this honest researcher.
The debunkers’ answer to Ted is simple: Hoards of farmers and others, with nothing better to do, fake landing sites all over the world and burn their own eyes. These hoaxers were so good chemists are still trying to find out how they changed the landing site soil. These debunkers’ explanations are good enough for the scientists that “will not see,” but not for people who are educated to the UFO evidence. So, as we all celebrate our Labor Day weekend, let us celebrate “the man of all seasons,” the pure researcher, Mr. Phillips and scores of other researchers like him who do the labor- the real work.
