The Politics of Aliens

I wish to send my condolences and prayers out to Bruce Duensing of "Intangible Materiality" his son died on December 11 2009 and Bruce is of course still grieving. Hand in their Bruce we love you and your great work. Joe ufomm

As I go over the reasons why the government might want to hide an alien presence one reason stands out more than any other: relinquishing power.

I am not talking about ETs taking over. What I am writing about here is what might happen after contact has been established. How powerful would a species, "superior" politically, technologically, culturally and ethically (religion?) influence be on the people of earth? The greatest success stories on this planet are democracies, with capitalism as its driving force. Free enterprise has over shadowed even individual rights today. But in the long term can this continue? This fantasy that an ever expanding and consuming society can maintain itself perpetually is being force fed a reality pill even now. However this type of society is fundamental to economic growth in capitalism. If, as some say, we can never leave this solar system, we are going to come to the end of the line in the near future. The idea that millions of humans may start believing in an ETs type of economic, political, religious, solutions here on earth is a real possibility… especially if what they offered looked good.

There doesn't seem to be any close encounter UFO witnesses who reported any capitalism going on between ETs and earth. There doesn't seem to be any need for trading with humans or mining materials they may need. ETs are not trying to sell us anything… that's scary for world capitalism in and of itself.

As humans start to get details about the ETs, the possibility of the breakdown in trust for our human type politics and economics on earth is very real. This is only the beginning of headaches for the earth governments and multi-nation corporations. The more desperate countries in the world might be drawn into mimicking ETs politics and economics, thinking this would help them. Many who have had an encounter of the fourth kind, claim that the ETs act similar to the military; however that would be expected if your duties are on a spaceship. There are other dangers as described in some ET reports. If for instance, ETs had a system where individuality was lost in a government guided conformity, this might be very scary to many in the western hemisphere. Some claim ETs seem to have a hive mentality. What would our people think of that? When you think about it, would that type of mentality be such a far cry from nationalism? The ETs didn't seem to want anything to do with their dead comrades at Roswell. What does that say about their ethics? Is it possible death does not mean to them what it means on earth? Did the ETs at Roswell really die or were their spirits just placed in another body? How would the existence and control of the paranormal by these ETs effect the governments of the world and the people?

The ETs may have an equal economic class system. Of course if that were true you can bet the sky the term "commie" would be thrown around the media like the non important converge is thrown around right now…constantly. Suppose the ETs that landed were beautiful; similar to the Nordics, as so often reported. The first question that would come to a thinking person's mind would be how they achieved this harmonious beauty. Would this mean they were shallow and designed their species' appearance? What if this was the case. It not so farfetched. I am sure many of you have watched "Nip/Tuck". Of course this would be done on another level, maybe even in their DNA. How would we react to a species that could literally design it's member including their IQs.? Wouldn't some in our species want a child which has a great IQ and looks beautiful?

How about the type of work that is done in these ET societies? Suppose they had Robots or specially designed bioengineered helpers to do the hard work, and this left the majority of the population of the species to peruse art and science with their highly intelligent modified brains. What would happen if this was offered to the public, including a way to increase everyone's IQ? Would the governments of the world love a super intelligent human population, examining the government's every move? If appearance could be modified into beauty only dreamt of, wouldn't there be a line of humans around the world waiting to be changed?

Let's take a look at the psychological makeup of these possible aliens. Would their emotional makeup be modified to feel a certain way, like say… good? Wouldn't a species, if they could, modify any negative feelings that may interfere with their pursuits… a type of technological happy pill? How many people would jump on that band wagon? Anyone who thinks this couldn't happen should take a look at the statistics on the amount of people in the United States taking anti-depressants regularly.

Of course, the nationalistic needs of every government would be directly challenged by the knowledge of an ET political system that was successful enough and stable enough to allow them the stars. A world of one species united will challenge earth's nationalism in the public's eyes, especially when placed in contrast to another intelligent species success story.

ETs will have a profound political influence on all of earth's foundation. The reaction of fundamentalist religions on an ET system will bring a great deal of pressure on the political power of our societies. In this arena there is another possibility that is rarely talked about by anyone in the UFO community and in the public at large. What would happen if we found ETs were basically atheistic?

You can bet the government has been over these issues a hundred times and came to the same conclusions. When someone tells you that the government hasn't any reason to hide an ET presence just tell them they really haven't thought it through.

  1. One of your best posts!

Let's leave earthly ideological affiliations behind here for hte moment. Surely if the galaxy was populated by rapacious neo-con free marketeers the raw materials of our solar system would have long been appropriated by some "pseudo-Ferengi" led interstellar cartel!

Since this doesnt seem to have occurred, unless we submit to the Fermi paradox and there are no aliens, we should assume that the motivations of a truly advanced species lies beyond simple colonialism and mercantilism.

Of course we can't assume that we have what they want (maybe they are not interested in planetary raw materials, but only the life forms and cultures they give rise to), but since they DO seem to be here, what else might motivate them?

    1) Curiosity? (science)
    2) Altrusim? (uplift?)
    3) Politics? (looking for the next member of the local federation?)

  2. Dear P,
Great comment. Once the shock is over many in this world will be looking up to these superior species as mentors. Some even do now.

    Thanks

  3. Your reasoning is excellent. Thanks for posting this - it has given me a lot to think about.

  4. There is another school of thought that postulates that a sufficiently advanced civilization could in effect complete an invasion and occupation program without the knowledge of its target. Any student of Sun Tzu recognizes the superiority of "winning without fighting". It seems logical that a sufficiently advanced alien society would find it more advantageous to assume control through nonviolent and perhaps not so obvious means if it found cause to do so. I put the Western World's manipulation of Third World countries through covert means as a primitive example of what I mean.

"...we should assume that the motivations of a truly advanced species lies beyond simple colonialism and mercantilism."
I don't think we should assume anything like that. We shouldn't even rule out that a truly advanced species wouldn't simply be engaged in expansionism or even predation for that matter.

We have to prepare ourselves for the worst and hope for the best. We should view and treat any off-world or non-human intelligent beings like we would a highly dangerous animal or a representative of an unfamiliar foreign government. That is with a great deal of respect, caution, and self-preservation in mind.

  5. Dear Steve,
That is the whole idea of the this blog to get people thinking in different ways.

    Thanks

  6. Dear Trained Observer,

I agree. Most of us who have studded UFO will notice the lack of armaments. Even when they are under attack they don't use the weapons we thought of in out science fiction stories. When you think about it what a waste materials to go in a destroy a civilization when you could probably win they over peacefully with what you offer, or as you say behind the curtain.
    Thanks

  7. Well, yeah, "They"'ve shown restraint, but we have had losses. Dogfights and ditching.
Unknown capabilities. Another good reason for us to pretend...

  8. Dear Thomas,
You know you're right. What do you tell the people when you have lost security in the skies. Many fighters trying to engage UFO craft are said to have been lost. But even that is a loss of power. The power to protect your people is the greatest powe of all. We give president unbelievable authority in the time of emergencies.
But what if you can't protect what do you do then tell your citizens then; to pray?

  9. Dead on, Joe. Without adequate preparations to ensure a level playing field, all we're left with is prayer. Or, invoke Lincoln. That always make people feel better...
